The drop out rate was the center of discussion Wednesday in Montgomery at a community roundtable event at Bellengrath Middle School. The discussion, sponsored by local radio station WVAS-FM, brought 14 school officials and local authorities together with parents to talk about how the state’s 87 percent graduation rate can be improved.

“Percentages have a place, but more important are the names,” Bice said. “If we had 25 dropouts, we need to figure out who they were and what we could have done to prevent it.”
